A new home for paralyzed gymnast Taylor Lindsay-Noel got the finishing touch August 8, when a crew of roofing professionals from Avenue Road Roofing volunteered their time to build the structure’s custom 5,000-square-foot roof.
The project also involved shingling, construction of a flat roof, installation of a skylight and some sheet metal work,” says Doug Cochrane, who led the effort and is Production Manager for Avenue Road Roofing.
SPAR-Marathon Roofing Supplies also deserves recognition for donating a significant amount of the materials that were used to build the roofing.
The five-bedroom home, located in North York at 104 Lorraine Drive, was built with generous donations by many Toronto-area personalities and local area companies. Special features include full wheel-chair accessability and there are plans to install an elevator. Rowena Lindsay, Taylor’s mom, said the project could not have been completed without the help of companies like Avenue Road Roofing, Durock Alfacing International and Canamould Extrusion Inc.
Taylor, a former member of the Canadian National Gymnastic Team, was injured on July 15, 2008. “I’m just flabbergasted by all the support that people have given me,” says Taylor, who is undergoing extensive therapy at Bloorview Kids Rehab hospital.
Plans call for Taylor and her mother to move into the new home this December. To learn more or make a donation, visit www.teamtaylor.ca.
