Slate tiles are a popular choice on many of Toronto’s heritage buildings.

Chances are you have seen an attractive heritage building or home and noted, in particular, the unique and attractive roofing tile. More often than not the roofing is made of slate shingles that could be up to 100 years old.
You can have a similar look on your building, but keep in mind that slate tiles are the most expensive option and require installation by expert roofing professionals. They are also much heavier than standard shingles, which may mean your roof needs some reinforcement to carry the extra weight.
Do we replace individual slate shingles? Absolutely.
The long life of slate shingles makes them “Eco-friendly”, primarily because there is less need for landfill. However, make sure the shingles are installed with copper nails that won’t rust away like steel nails.
Ask to see the many available colours and patterns – and keep in mind that copper metal work goes well with slate.

Buyer Tip: If you need a slate roof restoration, but are concerned about the cost, ask about a progressive restoration, which involves doing one slope per year. This can work because it is not possible to see more than one slope at a time. |
