Careful location of a skylight can have a significant – and very positive – impact on a living space in your home. Just adding natural light can make a room seem bigger or cheer you up on even the coldest winter day. You can put a skylight almost anywhere, so don’t limit your thinking to the most common applications – kitchens, hallways, bedrooms.
Want a more
economical
option? Try sun tunnels, which are less expensive than skylights because they can be fitted between existing rafter spaces.
As always, you can expect our crews to be among the best trained in the business. That’s because we attract the best professionals in the business, invest heavily in ongoing training and supplement our programs with factory training by our manufacturing partners, a necessary step to be an authorized installer. For example, we are an authorized installer of Velux skylights.
Have a leaking skylight?
Leaking skylights are typically the result of shoddy installation, one more reason why you should choose Avenue Road Roofing for repair or installation of skylights. Here’s how we do the job:
- curb-mounted (raised off the roof) skylight
- proper membrane and step flashings and weather stripping to avoid wind whistling through the cracks and avoid water leaks
- permits obtained, where required

Buyer Tip: Prolonged exposure to light can damage a carpet or furniture. The solution is to order a skylight that is tinted or has UV protection. You can also control light exposure with an electrical blind equipped with a remote control.
Most do-it-yourself skylight kits are mounted flush to the roof deck (not curb-mounted), which helps explain why most do-it-yourself skylights leak, especially in the winter! |
