Do you know when aluminum siding is better than vinyl siding – and vice-versa? Keep reading and you will get the answers.
Vinyl tends to be more popular because it is more fade resistant than aluminum, does not dent and has superior insulating characteristics. However, it is sometimes mandatory to use aluminum to meet fire codes. Aluminum is also a good choice when you are trying to match a newer area of a home to an existing aluminum cladded structure.
Either vinyl or aluminum siding offers the following benefits:
- helps to prevent animal intrusion
- lower maintenance costs (never needs to be repainted)
- freshen or upgrading the appearance of a home or commercial building
- energy savings if insulation is installed before the assembly of the siding
Factors that determine costs include ease of access, the need for scaffolding, the number of windows, the area that needs to be covered, and the need to relocate anything attached to the wall, such as a hydro mast or incoming wires.
If the walls of your home are not true (straight), some correction can be made by installing level wall insulation or strapping wall surfaces prior to installing the siding. In older buildings, this process can be more expensive because of the limited access through plaster walls.
